Christmas Acrostic

Here is one of our christmas activities that we had to do. We had to find a nine letter word related to chrismas and then make an acrostic poem. I chose greetings. 

Gladly passing the plates.

Everybody Gathered aroud the tree.
Evening carols.

Book Reveiw

 Harry Potter & the Philosopers stone.

Author: J K Rowling 

Genre: Fantasy and adventure

Main Characters: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasly.

Rating: *****/*****

Harry Potter & the Philosopers stone is a fantasy book about a young boy who attends Hogwarts for the first time, along with his new found friends, Ron and Hermione. I highly recommend this book for ages 10-14. It is a great read and it is thrilling. 

    

Financial Literacy

 This week we have done a new thing called financial literacy. It is where we pretend to have an income and tax. We also pretend to have a grocery bill and a fortune. We all start off with a card that tells us our income and our tax and mortgage. We then insert it into the table and then take away the tax and the mortgage. Once we've done that, we then get give a fortune card. The Fortune card willeither make you pay or let you recieve. My first fortune card made me pay $750 dollars on a root canal. Now im in debt by a LOT! You continue on doing this for the next 4 days and then stop. You then add all your other bills to the lot and then you have your overal balance. 

PMI Chart

 This week for reading we had to complete a PMI chart. For the chart we had to use 3 sources of imformation and then complete the table with the positives the negatives and the interesting. Here it is.

Icebergs are doing something cool.	Natural fertilizer for the ocean.  When they melt they release minerals like iron into the ocean.  Growth of microscopic marine plants known as phytoplankton. The new plant growth captures carbon, helping to reduce climate change.	No negative things in this text.	Scientists can see from satellites where an iceberg has passed.  They will see the recent growth of marine life.  The Iceberg  acts like a natural fertilizer.
Ice pirate	It will source 20 percent of the population of cape town for a year.  Will give water to people in need.  Will keep the taps from running dry.  Will be paid for.	- Severe drought in 2017 led to South African city Cape Town nearly running out of water. - The mission is expected to cost around $285 million.	- In the mid 1800s, Chilean breweries would tow small icebergs.

Pistacio: The Green Dog

In The news lately there has been a mention of a very rare dog called pistacio. The puppy was born in Italy six days ago. It has a rare abnormality (green fur). Researchers say that the green fur will where off when the puppy advances into aduldhood. They say it has already worn off since it's birth. The other dogs in the litter however have stayed the normal colour. Here is a photo of Pistacio. 

Tree Diagram

 Fof maths today we were looking at tree diagrams. I was trying to find out how many possible outcomes of a person who takes 6 shots at goal. I found out that there are 32 different outcomes. Here it is.

Maori language places.

This term whaea Katie comes into our roomto teach us some simple Maori. Last week she was teaching us places. For one of the activities she made a google drawing and told us to lable the places. Here it is. 

Types of triangles.

For maths last week we were learning about different types of triangles. we had to create a DLO showing our understanding. Here is mine. 

Current Events.

 Today we did a current events quiz. I chose to do the artical about Fortnite suing the apple store. We had to do a worksheet about it. Here it is. 

Current Event Quiz

This week we did current events we had a question about "a hiker in mexico is being described as having nerves of steel after she managed to take a selfie with a wild bear that climbed up on her. This is a very contriversial thing to do seeing as a bear could kill you in record time.

Take the OAR

In school we learn about taking the Oar and not the BED. These are words that mean different things.

Denial

I think that this is a really good thing for kids to learn and do because it teaches us to take the OAR and own up to our mistakes instead of going to BED. 

Current Events

Today we did a revision current events quiz. We got 19 out of 20, which is really good.

Matariki poem

This week I chose to write an acrostic poem on Matariki. Here it is. 

MAtariki harvest

Matariki tools.

I did this activity showing what tools use to be like compared to now. There are some big difference and some small ones. I found this activity very interesting because of the massive difference. Here is mine.

We also had to do an activity around the Matariki harvest. I chose 8 traditional foods from the harvest.

Continuing on Matariki, here is another activity around designing a candle. I chose this design because it is simple and I didn't have much time. I thought it looked pretty good but I was more amazed by some of the other ones. Here is mine.

Matariki Celebrations

This week was Matariki. We had to complete a series of activities around Matariki. Here is one of my activities that I did on different ways of celebrating Matariki.

Book Character Day

Today we had book character day. I went dressed as Maid Marian from Robin Hood. She is a very cool female character and I really enjoyed going as her.
