Writing.

This week for writing we had to write about a discict in NZ. I chose the Tasman district because I have been going there since I was born. Here is my writing.

Tasman district report.

The Tasman district is a local government district in the north of the south island of New Zealand. It borders canterbury. It is dry in summer and autumn but windy and wet in the spring and the winter.

Nelson was New Zealand’s second planned European settlement. In 1841 the New Zealand Company sold Nelson’s land in London. The plan was that English settlers with capital would develop the land, employing workmen. But, many who bought land were speculators who had no intention of settling in New Zealand, and there was insufficient land good for farming. When the company explored the area they found hills and mountains covered in forest.

In Tasman there are some very significant landmarks to New Zealand.
These include split apple rock, Broadgreen Historic House and the Anatoki salmon farm (which is located just south of Collingwood). These are just a few cool things to see and do in the Tasman district.

Some of the most famous walks of New Zealand are in the Tasman district.
One of the better known walks is called the Able Tasman. I have been on this walk and I absolutely loved it. There are also a lot of famous lakes such as the blue lake, Lake Rotoiti and lake Rotoroa. I have also been to farewell spit, which is a well known destination where many tourists take bus rides to.

The tasman district is an amazing place to explore, from lakes, tramps and cool things to do with your family. I have been going to Goldey Bay for my whole life and I absolutely love it!

Writing

This week we had to describe an object without using it's name. Here is mine, can you guess what it is?

The neck's sleek wood finish is as smooth as a freshly polished stone.
The silvery strings vibrate on a perfect octave.
The head's complex design glimmers in the morning sunlight, causing a faint apricot glow.

The enpin sighs as it strains to hold up it’s heavy burden, although it’s too proud to make a fuss.

Monday Mornings

This week we had to write about our monday mornings. We had to use our 5 senses to describe it in full detail. Here is mine.

I’ll set my alarm, what a great idea……

I'm about to slay the dragon when it starts beeping, what? Dragons don’t beep. It doesn’t stop, so I struggle my eyes open, but it’s still there. Beep! Beep! Beep! I glare at my watch, oh, realization hits me. I reach out and hit snooze. Ahh that’s better! I drift away once again to the dragon but the beeping starts again. Oh for God's sake!

I’m up! dragging myself out of bed.
I see Atlas stare up at me as if to say, Don’t get up, PLEASE. I tell him I
have to, so he gently rises then grumpily leaps off my bed.

The sun filters through my bedroom window as I reach for the door.
Staggering down the hallway I stumble into the bathroom. The warm water
cleanses my skin, waking me up a little. My face pink from the shower i
change and go into the kitchen

The smell of fresh coffee and muesli fills my nostrils while the sound of
soda being charged and Atlas barking makes me feel content.
Mmmm, the hot, buttery toast tastes divine, just what I felt like!

I hear the others get up as I practice my cello. The rosin on my bow has a
distinct smell of tree which is nice, I guess. My fingers are stiff like a pencil
which is no good for the elige! But too late now it’s time to go. The minty
taste lingers in my mouth as we head out the door.

Oh No! We’re going to be late again!

Monday mornings Suck!

My special Place.

This week we had to write a piece on our special place. I chose the Collingwood beach in golden bay.

My Special Place.
Walking along, the smell of the salty seaside and hot chips fill my nostrils.
Salty, dried seaweed swirls through the air along with the subtle scent of
fresh fish. I smell the presence of the water gently combing the sand for
seashells.
As I dig my toes into the soft sand it provides a bed for my feet. The breeze
filters through my hair like a sieve. Sharp sticks poke me occasionally leaving
my feet speckled with splinters.
In the distance I see fishermen waiting for their prey. I see the birds flying
overhead with the wind as a pillow under their wings. Some kids nearby are
making huts out of the driftwood. The waves lap onto the shore, inhaling and
exhaling as they climb up the beach. seagulls and shags exchange calls
screeching as they go.
I hear the distant shouts of the fishermen when they haul in a fresh snapper.
My brother yells as a fish nearby jumps, we laugh, as it’s only a stone.
Collingwood beach is my special place,I feel calm and relaxed as I run through
the sand.

Instructions.

This week we had to write instructions for our favourite sandwich. I chose a fresh chicken frenchstick. Her is how you make it.

Sandwich Equipment:

  • Bread Knife
  • Chopping Board
  • Butter knife Plate

Ingredients:
  • Chicken
  •  French stick
  • Avocado
  •  Kewpie Mayonnaise
  • Fresh tomato
  • Butter
  •  Fresh lettuce
How to make:
  1. Firstly you cut the french stick to approx 20cm long. You then slice the french stick in half leaving a tiny bit more on the top half.
  2.  After that take your butter knife and gently spread butter over one side of each half.
  3.  Then take your chicken and shred it into bite-sized pieces.
  4.  Place the chicken thickly onto one of the halves.
  5.  Cut the avocado into thin slices.
  6.  Place the avocado onto the chicken slightly squishing it down.
  7. Then you slice the tomato into thick circles and lay on top of the avocado.
  8.  Next you pluck some lettuce off and place it over everything leaving some hanging over the edges.
  9.  Then you generously squeeze the mayonnaise out over all of it.
  10.  Finally take you fresh chicken sandwich and but it on a plate. ENJOY!

My Myth- The Green Flash.

This week we had to create our own myth. I chose to create on around the green flash. Her is my work.
Ra and the Green Flash.

Once there was a beautiful young woman who lived on the wild West Coast of the South Island.. Her name was Ra Tuhiwai. She was the daughter of Tane Tuhiwai and the lover of Hare Tohoro who was a young warrior. They had a beautiful baby boy called Marama. But soon a tragic thing happened, Hare went to war with the neighbouring tribe and did not return. In her grief Ra rose up and became the sun. But she had left her only child, Marama. Marama was all alone. He had to look after himself. But seeing as he was only 3 he rose up and became the light (Marama). To this day they both remain in the sky. They meet on clear nights and their bond creates a green glow or a flash.

That is the story of the green flash.
