The boy in the pyjamas/chapter 7 questions.

Here are my answers for chapter 7. We have met 1 new character Pavel.

Answer the following questions:

Describe the one person Bruno knew to be mad. Herr Roller: Because he has arguments with himself and sometimes punches himself in order to win the argument.

What does Bruno do to entertain himself? Builds a tire swing from a tree.

What is Bruno’s opinion of Lieutenant Kotler? Cruel and mean and when you go near him you get cold and want to put a jumper on.

How does Gretel act around Lieutenant Kotler? She flirts and laughs with him even know he is not that funny.

How does Lieutenant Kotler treat Bruno? Like a little kid.

How does Lieutenant Kotler treat Pavel? Like he is filthy poo.

How does Bruno feel when Lieutenant Kotler treats Pavel like this? Embarrassed and sad because he is a part of this.

How does Bruno injure himself? By falling face first off the tire swing that he made because he was going too high.

Describe Bruno’s injury. Not too bad but still a nasty cut.

Who looks after him and what do they do? Pavel looks after him and cleaned him up after his fall.

What do we learn about Pavel’s past? That he was practising as a doctor but didn’t get to be a doctor because he got taken to a prison camp.

Why does Pavel’s behaviour change when Bruno’s mother arrives? Because she is the commandant's wife and he is not suppose to talk to anyone.

How does she treat Pavel? She doesn’t treat him nicely but not meanly either.

Why won’t she tell Bruno’s father what happened? Because father might not like a Jewish man touching his son and Pavel might get killed.

Does Bruno understand the situation here at Out-With? Explain. No he doesn’t know what's going on

Look up the following words in the dictionary, write their definitions and explain what they mean: inequality, racism, prejudice.

Racism: Discrimination to different cultures and beliefs.

Inequality: The condition of being unequal; lack of equality

Prejudice: an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

  1. Hi Honor

Well done with your answers to the question for these chapters. This is a great book and I loved reading it too. I really like the activity you did when you all had turns at being Germans and Jews. It really shows how badly some people were treated.
Keep up the great work! :)
