On Wednesday we had West Coast Athletics. We walked to the athletics ground. We then got into our age groups. I participated in the 1200 metres and discus. first we had the running which I did and came 3rd, which is pretty good. Although to qualify for Canterbury it is top 2. I then did discus and also came 3rd. I was happy with what I came but I will try hard next time. Image result for athletics

Movie Review

Yesterday we had the first film festival for children at the Regent Theatre. We took a bus down to the theatre and sat as a school. Then Paroa and Kumara joined us in the theatre. We then watched the movies one by one. They were pretty good for kids. Although some were done by kids and some were done by adults. One even had drone footage! There was a range skills used to create these movies such as green screen, drone footage, digital movie creating, go pro and just the ordinary phone or i-pad. Some of the movies were good and some of them needed some tweaking. Overall I enjoyed this experience.

Keeping Ourselves Safe.

This term we are looking at Keeping ourselves safe. Today we looked at some senarios of people in unsafe enviroments. Miss power would read us a short story about things like bullying and unexpected parties. We then had to take those situations and choose some options that the narrator could do. This was the first session of Keeping Ourselves Safe.

Shake Out.

Yesterday we had an earthquake drill called the shake out. When we heard over the intercom that there was an earthquake we then immediately went under the tables and covered. We then heard over the intercom that it was safe but we needed to evacuate the building dew to a Tsunami warning. We all walked out, up the hill and over to a safe zone.

Instructions.

This week we had to write instructions for our favourite sandwich. I chose a fresh chicken frenchstick. Her is how you make it.

Sandwich Equipment:

  • Bread Knife
  • Chopping Board
  • Butter knife Plate

Ingredients:
  • Chicken
  •  French stick
  • Avocado
  •  Kewpie Mayonnaise
  • Fresh tomato
  • Butter
  •  Fresh lettuce
How to make:
  1. Firstly you cut the french stick to approx 20cm long. You then slice the french stick in half leaving a tiny bit more on the top half.
  2.  After that take your butter knife and gently spread butter over one side of each half.
  3.  Then take your chicken and shred it into bite-sized pieces.
  4.  Place the chicken thickly onto one of the halves.
  5.  Cut the avocado into thin slices.
  6.  Place the avocado onto the chicken slightly squishing it down.
  7. Then you slice the tomato into thick circles and lay on top of the avocado.
  8.  Next you pluck some lettuce off and place it over everything leaving some hanging over the edges.

PrEP

This term we are doing PrEP. PrEP is a thing that we do at our school to learn how to be in or manage a business. We have to apply for a job. This year I applied for the PrEP warehouse and the PrEP Bank. There are lot's of jobs to apply for, like Advertising agency, Bank, Warehouse, Police, working in a junior room and helping the caretaker. You also can have your own business and make things. At the end of it there is a big market full of products that the businesses have made. Image result for cool crafts

Argument writing

For the past term we have been focosing on writing a quality argument. Here is mine, it is about the death penlty.

Should we have the death penalty?
I believe that no country should have the death penalty because taking ones
life is usually just as bad as the crime itself. What happened to the saying
“all lives are sacred”. If someone kills someone they should be prepared for
a life sentence in jail, not death.

If killing someone is a crime then the death penalty should be one too. People
do stupid things, but if they are killed by the death penalty they will never
learn, never have sympathy for the one they killed. Maybe living with the
thought that you have killed someone is worse than death itself.

The saying “all lives are sacred” does not add up to the penalty. If one's life
is taken should we then take the life of another? two wrongs don’t make a
right. A total of 25 death row inmates were executed in the United States
in 2018! That’s only in 2018!

I think that a life long jail sentence is enough for a really bad crime.
Usually after people comit a bad crime they then comit suicide after. So a
death penalty is just an exuse to escape from the world without any pain.

The death penalty should be banned in all countries from now on. It is
definitely not good because taking one's life because of a crime is just not
OK, even if they murdered someone.

The Production

This term we had the production. It was a show called Super Stan. I wasn't in it but I watched it on Thursday night. It went for 1 hour 30 minutes. It took a lot of hard work and practise for them to perfect it, but they got there and it was really good.
Well done to all the people in the production!

Argument (Animals in zoos)

This week for writing we had to write an arugument on should animals be kept in zoos. I think that they shouldn't be kept in zoos. Here is mine.
Should Animals be kept in Zoos?
I strongly believe that animals shouldn’t be kept in zoos because it is
unnatural. It is also cruel and cramped. Animals are often separated from
their families when they are brought to zoos. How would you like to be
separated from your family?

When animals are kept in zoos it encloses and refines them from doing what’s
natural. Like Hunting, and being self sufficient. research says that Tigers and
lions have around 18,000 times less space in zoos than they would in the wild.
Animals should be in their natural environment and NOT in cages. Animals in
zoos often lose their natural instincts because their habitat isn't natural.
Being kept in captivity doesn't allow animals to fully test their instincts, so
many animals lose their natural behavior.

Animals in zoos are endlessly getting looked at, yelled at, scrutinized and
pointed at. They are like bugs under a microscope. All cramped and homesick
animals squish in their cages everyday for the rest of their life!. That’s not a
life for a wild animal.

Animals get separated from their family when their taken to zoos. When
animals are without their family they will be sad and depressed. What child
wants to see lifeless animals mope around all day. Well, Certainly not ME!

Think about what we are doing to our wild animals. Taking them from their
natural home and their families. Just think if you were in a zoo. All the power
would be sucked out of you. That’s why I don’t think animals should be in zoos.

Maths, Probability

This week for maths we had to do a blog post on probabilty. Here is mine

Argument writing

This week we also had to write another argument about should kids have phones at school. I think they shouldn't. Here is my writing.
Should cell phones be allowed at school?

I strongly believe that cell phones should not be allowed at school because
they cause a huge distraction for the posesser and their peers around them.
Cell phones also prevent socialization between children and their friends.
They also cause some serious health problems.

Children should definitely not be allowed phones at school because they
cause a major distraction for kids and people around them. Imagine this
scenario… your teacher tells someone to get off their phone and they ignore
her, she tells them again and again but they still don’t listen. They then put
earphones in and put on some loud music on. You and the rest of the class
have just wasted 5 precious minutes of the day just waiting for that one person.
Imagine if that happens 12 times, that is a whole hour of your day wasted! Cell
phones not only distract you from your learning but your teacher and
classmates too.

Cell phones are also a brick wall in front of socialization. They cause kids to
stop making friends and resort to their cell phones. Cell phones also create a
pathway for bullies to weasel their way into your life and bully you. Your poor
defenseless child doesn’t know what's hit them. They are now being bullied not
only at school but on the internet too.

Who manages children's use of phones at school? Whos to say children are
not sneaking around taking photos and videos of you or others without them
knowing, they might then post it on social media without you knowing. Who
wants an embarrassing photo where everybody can see it? Certainly not me!
We are letting all this happen? Well it’s time to stop it! Not only is this a privacy
risk it’s also a bullying risk.

Schools meant to be a fun place full of laughter and enjoyment.
Cell phones are wrecking our generation. I have seen the transformation of
skinny fit kids getting addicted to their device and then turning into a fat
Obnoxious unfit kids who’s always on their phone.

Writing

This week we had to create a skeleton of an argument. Here is what it should look like.

Thursday 27 June 2019

Argument writing.

This week for writing we had to write an argument on cell phones. Here is mine.

Cell Phone Argument
I strongly believe that Kids should not be allowed a phone until they are
13 or over, because cellphones cause a lack of imagination, low attention
span and they are too caught up in their device that they don’t have time to
go outside and get some fresh air.

Children under 13 shouldn’t have cellphones because social media is a terrible
influence on a teenage mind. Researchers have found that instagram, twitter
and facebook are just another way to target weaker or less popular people
and bully them. It’s called cyberbullying.
How would you like your child being cyberbullied? Social media is a dangerous
world!

Cell Phones also generate a short attention span. If kids are always on their
device they are unlikely to be able to pay attention for a long period of time.
When they are bored they can just flick between pages or watch something
else on their device. There are endless things to do on a phone or a computer,
so kids rarely put it down!

Research says a healthy child should get at least 1 hour of physical activity
per day if not more. Is your child doing that? Cell phones prevent physical
activity and fun fitness. Cell phones are taking over your mind and your body.
Social sport is a great way to make friends and cell phones block that pathway.
Cell phones create moody, depressed and angry children who won’t talk or
socialize!
Are you letting your child's brain rot? Is your child depressed and moody, could
cell phones be the cause of this?

What do you think? Think about what cell phones are doing to our generation
and generations after. I strongly think that children should not have cell phones
because they cause a distraction, lack of imagination and low self esteem.
